Right Now
Right now as i write these words, it’s around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17th, 2008.
Right now it is about 71 degrees out, with a mild breeze from the north at about 5 MPH. All in all a nice day.
Except….The Stock Market has completely fallen apart. The Dow has lost 800 points in the last 3 days, and that is including Tuesday’s 100+ point rebound. I believe that translates to about an $850,000,000,000 loss. Our Many turned to none. To nothing. It would be foolish at this point to think that this is over. It is not. Washington Mutual is in trouble and needs a buyer. Talk is that after today’s 24% stock plunge, Morgan Stanley will be looking for a buyer. And that 24% isn’t a bad finish, considering they at one point were down by 44%. AIG has been bailed out by the Fed to the tune of $85,000,000,000.
The 25,000 people who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers wish they were so lucky.
The major party candidates are putting out their messages. The Obama campaign has a two minute ad covering on the mess the economy is in. John McCain also has one out. Let’s look at both of them:
I like both ads. I like the fact that both candidates are addressing the issues we need covered, and with quickness as well. Now, those of you who know the writing here know I am not the biggest fan of John McCain, but I like what he has to say here. I also like what Barack Obama has to say as well. But they do more than make ads. They speak live, and it was here where there’s been a real difference between these two men.
John McCain said Monday that he believes that the “Fundamentals of our economy are strong” and then had to backpedal to cover his butt, and said the Fundamentals he was speaking of are American workers. Nice as far as it goes, but this deserves at least a slightly deeper thought. How strong is the economy if over 600,000 jobs have been lost since January? Those numbers are going to go up significantly with the losses Wall street. How is that strong? The people themselves are strong? Yes we are, but we can only use that strength if the economy is working properly and it clearly isn’t. John McCain has also said that he wants to form a committee to look into the matter. That’s cute but it isn’t a plan, we need more than “a committee” to know where exactly you are going to go and what kind of economic leader you are going to be.
Part of leadership is planning. Part of leadership is showing you know what you are doing and where you are going. The issue I have with John McCain here is that I see neither of these most necessary qualities in him on this subject. And this is THE most important subject in America. If you fail here, you fail everyone, everywhere, and frankly are not worthy of the office you seek. All other subjects are secondary to the economy.
I see regulation of the mortgage mess and the banking industry as key to fixing this economy. Barack Obama has been talking about Regulation for awhile now, he spoke at Nasdaq about government regulation of markets….Last September, so he, Unlike Senator McCain is not a latecomer to Regulation. John McCain has only in the last three days come to jump on the Regulation bandwagon.
Now, it is good to see that both men want regulation, but I do think that McCain is not being entirely genuine about it, to tell you the truth. Call me what you will, but when Phil Gramm is one of your top economic advisers, Phil Gramm, who released one of the most destructive forces onto the American economy with the Enron Loophole, which deregulated speculators, and you have called yourself a deregulator in past, pro-regulation talk sounds a little funny coming out of your mouth.
Who is to blame for this mess? (Personally I blame Bush, Paulson and Bernanke) What’s your take on regulation within wall street? Within the Mortgage sector? What candidate, major party or otherwise, can fix this mess best? What can WE do about this economic crisis? What firm will fall next? When will this economic free-fall finally end, and what will be leftover when it does? I’d like your thoughts on these subjects. Drop me a Line!

A Not So Swift Boat Sinks
A few words about Jerome Corsi, author of “Unfit for Command” and the new “Obama Nation”. The Man is an Idiot. A blithering yammering buffoon. A dolt of the Highest order. I would say something nice about him, but …. wait ….. no i wouldn’t. There are few types of people I have no room for in this world, and conspiracy theorists are near the top of that list. Bullshit artists are not far behind.
Let’s talk about what the man has written before. His most famous work “Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry” was an amazingly brazen lie from one cover to the other, Those who served with John Kerry refuted every negative claim made against him in the book, and contains interviews about John Kerry with people who never even served with the man!
His Book “Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians” claims that American Democrats have been bought by the Iranians and that the dems are working with the mullahs to get Iran the Bomb, and that a prominent Iranian American who did fund raising for John Kerry in 2004 was in fact an agent of the Iranian Government. Untrue. Completely Unfounded.
He has also claimed that John McCain has the backing of a group tied to Al-Qaeda , that there is an unlimited supply of oil being constantly created under the earths crust, and that George Bush was trying to turn the U.S., Mexico and Canada into one big nation.
Um…. How high do you have to be to believe this bullshit?
A note. I have NOT read this book. I was not even going to cover this, but I decided to take a look at the rebuttal “Unfit for Publication”, put out in response to this book. I saw that the Junior Senator from Illinois had nailed Mister Corsi for no less then 50 Inaccuracies, then started to read the rebuttal a bit more In depth. I may read Mister Corsi’s book, at some point. But I tell you I have a low tolerance for Bullshit, and I do not want to spend $25 dollars or whatever the price of this book is and give it to this man and encourage useless stupidity. If he had anything credible to say, I would look into it. I haven’t see one credible thing from this man though, anywhere. And I have been looking.
Onto covering Obama’s response to Corsi. Always leading with corsi’s own statements from the book “The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality”
Let’s See…In no particular order: Corsi said that Barack Obama’s parents may never have been married, and on the same page said they were.
He says that in Barack Obama’s first book “Dreams of my Father” that he never wrote about his father’s problems with Alchohol, despite the fact that he did.
Corsi says Obama never wrote about taking his wife to be Michelle to Kenya in that same book, but He in fact did.
Corsi claims that the book wasn’t dedicated to his family, when it in fact was.
Corsi claims hasn’t answered questions as to whether he had dealt drugs in college, or continued to do drugs into his law school days, and then seemingly implies that Barack may have in fact kept doing drugs by asking whether he had continued using drugs even after he had become a State and even U.S. Senator.
He stopped when he was 20, and has stated so on numerous occasions.
Corsi claimed that Barack Obama took sides in Kenyan Politics in 2006 by siding with opposition leader Raila Odinga.
He did nothing of the sort.
I am hoping you see a pattern here.

I have to say, I am not in the least intrigued by this man or what he has to say. Sounds like a conservative wish list for what they would like to say about Senator Obama, but falls far short of what Mister Obama says is reality. And knowing Mister Corsi’s prior work, I believe Senator Obama here.
Watch a Video about the man, from Countdown with Keith Olbermann.
Am I the only one who loses his mind when he runs into stupidity like this? Do you believe there is a place for clear lies like these? Do you think anyone actually Buys this claptrap? Do you think I am off base with my assertions here? Drop me a Line and Let me Know!
