Polls, News Of The Week, And Other Stuff

Mike Walsh on August 21st, 2008

karaoke_neon01.jpg Rejoice, Republicans, Rejoice! Your Leading in the polls…wait….no you aren’t. Well one of’em anyway. So much for the Hype. Been hearing talk about how much John McCain has gained against Barack Obama in the last few weeks and how he’s ahead in the polls. Odd thing though, you really have to sift through the polls to find the one that McCain is ahead in. I trust the polls with larger sample sizes, and the one (not ones, one) that has McCain ahead by a considerable margin also has a sample size that is approximately 1/3 that of the polls I normally look at. So, let’s look at some poll numbers.

Reuters/Zogby: 1089 polled (lv) McCain:46% Obama: 41%

IBD/TIPP: 856 polled (rv) Obama: 43% McCain: 38%

Rasmussen: 3000 polled (lv) Obama 47% McCain 46%

So, next time you see someone talking about polls, show them this, or go to Real clear politics polls or 538.com

Random thoughts: Things are starting up for the Democratic National Convention today, click here for a list of events in the Denver area.

There are Four events happening there today, well…. they call them events, two of them look like real honest to bob political events, but the Karaoke Convention? Can you Picture it? Drunken Dems, in Horrible Paisley ties, wrapped not so deftly around their heads, with John McCain masks on singing Abba’s “Dancing queen”. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! MAKE IT STO…. wait a minute, it’s not that kind of karaoke. Read about it here. I didn’t know there was another way to do karaoke, but apparently in denver there is. Kewl.

Seriously though, I hope everyone has a good time. Make America proud….Aaaaaand don’t sing any Abba. Abba sucks.

Random thoughts II: Joe Lieberman “Independent Democrat”, Buddy of Republican Nominee John McCain, and the 2000 Vice Presidential pick (notice i spelled pick correctly, something the AP apparently can’t do) for the Democratic Party, will be speaking at the Republican Convention. One would presume that the Connecticut Senator will speak about Sen. McCain’s strength’s as a Non-partisan and a maverick. I can’t wait to see what Super Joe has to say.

Random Thoughts III: As of this writing, Freddie mac and Fannie mae are down over 20% each. There is speculation that it is now inevitable that the government will have to bailout these two funds. You had to see this coming. As soon as Paulson made it possible by pushing for this and getting congress to agree, you had to know this was gonna happen. Just not so soon. Things were looking up for a while there too. Damn.

That’s it for me. Oh, a news flash for you, I will in all likelihood be doing several stories daily for the next two weeks as the Conventions get moving along. As close to live reporting as you can get without being there. News on everything, breaking stories, Important speeches, the works!

If there’s anything you want reported, covered or exposed, let me know!
